Former Moosehead Monast gets NHL tryout

By Matthew Wuest

Former Halifax Mooseheads defenceman Guillaume Monast is getting a free-agent tryout with the Dallas Stars.

Monast, who spent the past season and a half in Halifax, will be a member of the Stars' roster at an annual NHL prospects tournament in Traverse City, Mich., next month.

The 6-foot-2, 191-pound defenceman had eight goals and 22 assists in 65 games last season. He was traded to the Quebec Remparts in the off-season to complete the December trade for Brad Marchand, and is entering his over-age campaign.

Monast, who is an undrafted free agent, will look to earn an NHL contract with a strong showing.
