Corsi set to skip over-age year after inking ECHL deal

By Matthew Wuest

Peter-James Corsi appears ready to skip his 20-year-old campaign in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League.

Corsi, a high-scoring centre who spent the past season-and-a-half with the Halifax Mooseheads before being dealt to the Drummondville Voltigeurs at June's draft, has signed with the East Coast Hockey League's Charlotte Checkers.

The 5-foot-10, 180-pounder had 31 goals and 39 assists for 70 points in 67 games in Halifax last season, and was one of the team's more consistent players. He tied for the team scoring lead in the playoffs with 19 points in 15 games.

"P.J. is a very hard worker who is a versatile forward," Checkers general manager Derek Wilkinson said. "Not only does he bring skill to the team, he also has an element of grit to his game."

Corsi came to the Mooseheads in December 2006 as part of a trade for Justin Saulnier. The Mooseheads traded him in June to complete a deal for enforcer David Bouchard.
